DeltaPrime DeFi Hacked on ARB: $6 Million in Crypto Stolen

  • DeltaPrime, a DeFi protocol on the Arbitrum network, experienced a significant security breach.
  • Reports indicate that the breach resulted from the exploit of an administrator’s private key.
  • Approximately $5.93 million in crypto assets were stolen, underscoring the security vulnerabilities in the DeFi sector.

DeltaPrime DeFi Protocol Faces $6 Million Loss Due to Security Breach

Major Security Incident on DeltaPrime Highlights DeFi Risks

The blockchain security firm Cyvers disclosed a security breach in the decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol DeltaPrime, which utilizes the Arbitrum network. Initially estimated at $4.5 million, the loss was later revised to $5.93 million after it was discovered that the funds were moved from DeltaPrime’s liquidity pools to a suspicious address.

Private Key Exploitation Results in Significant Loss

A cybersecurity company revealed that the breach involved multiple suspicious transactions on the ARB chain. The intruder gained access to DeltaPrime’s smart contracts by exploiting the administrator’s private key, allowing them to alter the proxy smart contract and redirect funds.

Impact on DeltaPrime’s Liquidity Pools

The breach severely impacted DeltaPrime’s liquidity pools, including DPUSDC, DPARB, and DPBTCb, leading to the loss of significant assets. Cyvers noted that the suspicious address began converting USDC tokens to Ethereum (ETH), raising further alarms.

Recent Trends in DeFi Security Breaches

This incident follows a mid-July hack of the cross-chain DeFi protocol Li.Fi, resulting in an $11 million loss in crypto assets. Further underscoring the sector’s vulnerabilities, another $15 million was stolen from the cross-chain gaming bridge Ronin earlier this August. In post-event updates, Sky Mavis reported through the X platform that Norwegian authorities had frozen $5.7 million worth of stolen Axie Infinity funds, marking a significant step toward accountability.

Conclusion

The security breach at DeltaPrime highlights ongoing security challenges within the DeFi landscape, emphasizing the need for enhanced security protocols. As the community seeks accountability and potential recovery of lost assets, the focus on securing DeFi protocols has never been more critical.
