COINOTAG News, April 28th: A recent report from The Block highlights a significant development in the Ethereum ecosystem, as Ethereum researcher Dankrad Feist has unveiled Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP-9698). Released on Sunday, this proposal aims to systematically enhance Ethereum’s gas limit by up to a factor of 100. Under this initiative, Ethereum clients are expected to vote for a structured increase in the gas limit based on a carefully designed plan.
The proposal outlines a deterministic gas limit increase schedule, which envisions a tenfold increase every two years, correlating with approximately 164,250 blocks, beginning in June 2025. Should Feist’s recommendations be adopted, Ethereum could witness a surge in its gas limit from the existing 36 million to a substantial 3.6 billion over four years. This escalation is projected to significantly boost the performance of the Ethereum main network.
While acknowledging potential challenges, such as the burden on less optimized nodes and extended block propagation times, Feist argues that this methodical increase will provide developers and node operators sufficient time to adapt. Fabrice Cheng, an affiliated developer, noted that this adjustment could theoretically enable Ethereum to process around 2,000 transactions per second.
