COINOTAG News reported on February 25th that Tang Yongpan, founder of SlowMist, provided critical insights regarding a past incident involving 12,000 ETH stolen from the Poly Network. Contrary to popular belief, Yongpan indicated that the perpetrators were part of the Eastern European hacker collective known as Inferno Drainer, rather than a North Korean group. This case presents a complex issue for recovery efforts, as the laundering techniques exhibited share striking similarities with those employed by North Korean hackers, complicating the tracking of stolen assets.

Previously, on September 28, 2024, LookIntoChain highlighted a significant loss due to a phishing attack, resulting in the theft of 12,083.6 spWETH, valued at approximately $32.33 million. Notably, research by Arkham suggests a possible link to Shen Yu, co-founder of Bitpie and CEO of Cobo, raising further questions about the implications of such connections in the ongoing discourse surrounding crypto security.
