AfD Submits Motion in German Parliament to Shield Bitcoin From MiCA Regulation

COINOTAG News reports that on October 29, Germany’s main opposition, the AfD, submitted a motion to the Bundestag calling for a measured stance on crypto regulation. Filed on October 23, it asserts that Bitcoin is structurally distinct from other assets and should be exempt from the EU’s MiCA framework.

The motion notes that while Bitcoin tax treatment is broadly positive, ongoing legal uncertainty hinders long‑term private investment and policy planning within the current framework.

It also calls for recognizing Bitcoin as a strategic asset for national reserves, preserving the 12‑month tax exemption, maintaining VAT relief on Bitcoin, and safeguarding individuals’ right to self‑custody.

Analysts say the proposal could shape German policy debates ahead of broader MiCA alignment, underscoring the need for policy clarity to support institutional participation and liquidity in the crypto market.
