Aptos Velociraptr (AIP-131) Upgrade Cuts Block Time Up to 40% — Validator Rollout Begins in September, Full Deployment by October

Aptos Labs has announced the consensus upgrade Velociraptr (AIP 131), which introduces a new block proposal mechanism designed to reduce block time by up to 40%. With Aptos’ present block time near 100 milliseconds, the protocol modification targets lower latency and more efficient transaction ordering while retaining existing consensus integrity.

The initiative’s phased rollout is scheduled to begin on the Aptos validator network in September, with completion targeted for October. Network participants and ecosystem stakeholders should track the staged deployment and published performance metrics to assess the upgrade’s operational impact.
