Arbitrum DAO Considers Canceling $225 Million Gaming Catalyst Program Amid Declining Support and Transparency Issues

On March 25th, COINOTAG News reported that the Arbitrum DAO is currently weighing a critical proposal aimed at terminating financing for the “Gaming Catalyst Program” (GCP) and retrieving the previously allocated 225 million ARB tokens. The initiative was initially sanctioned under overly optimistic market expectations, which have since manifested as unsustainable. Notably, the program’s main backer, Treasure DAO, has severed ties with Arbitrum, resulting in a noticeable decline in participation and enthusiasm from other significant contributors. Additionally, the GCP has faced scrutiny over issues such as lack of funding transparency, unjustified salary hikes for its team, and diminished reporting requirements.

The proposal highlights the absence of fundamental operational frameworks and transparency within GCP. Responding to the turmoil, committee member David Bolger emphasized that Arbitrum is becoming a pivotal nexus for gaming developments, with over 25 game-related chains, including industry giants Ubisoft, Square Enix, and Tap Nation, integrating its technological infrastructure. Initially launched in March 2024, GCPā€™s objective was to bolster the Web3 gaming ecosystem by allocating substantial financial resources for game development projects over a three-year timeline. Ongoing community governance discussions indicate that a definitive consensus on this matter remains elusive.
