During Hong Kong Fintech Week 2025, Binance CEO Richard Teng underscored two pillars for mainstream crypto adoption: clear crypto regulation and institutional involvement. He noted that regulators have begun dedicating time and resources to understand the space, signaling a shift from retail-only engagement toward broader investor participation.

With institutions entering the market, the dynamics switch from narrow retail cycles to longer investment horizons, varied strategies, and larger capital flows, expanding market depth and resilience.

Asked whether institutional involvement could erode decentralization, Teng rejected the idea. He said a broader mix of participants boosts activity, and while cryptographic tech remains rooted in decentralization and immutability, centralized players can amplify its value. The ideal framework combines decentralization with a superior centralized experience.
