Bitcoin ZK Rollup Protocol Citrea Launches Innovative BitVM-Based Bridge ‘Clementine’ on Bitcoin Testnet

COINOTAG has disclosed that as of September 24, the Bitcoin ZK Rollup protocol known as Citrea has successfully launched its BitVM-based bridge, dubbed Clementine, on the Bitcoin testnet. The development team behind Citrea characterizes Clementine as a “trust-minimized two-way hook program.” This revolutionary technology permits the locking of Bitcoin on its primary chain, enabling the minting of an equivalent Bitcoin token for utilization on the Citrea network. To reverse this mechanism, the minted token must be burnt, permitting the withdrawal of Bitcoin on the original blockchain. Clementine capitalizes on BitVM, a computational framework developed by Bitcoin developer Robin Linus last year. The primary ambition of this framework is to facilitate the deployment of Ethereum-style smart contracts on the Bitcoin network, all the while laying the groundwork for zero-knowledge computing.
