Changsha Foreigner Romance Scam: 11 Convicted Over Fake Cryptocurrency Platform Defrauding 340,000 RMB
According to COINOTAG News, the Yuhua District Procuratorate in Changsha, Hunan Province, has convicted 11 defendants in a case dubbed the foreigner romance scam. This scheme, an evolution of the Pig Slaughtering Scam, used stolen images and crafted personas to lure targets via chat and friendship, then peddled a cryptocurrency investment fraud.
Fraudsters redirected victims from public platforms to private messaging apps, where they built emotional trust and steered investments on a counterfeit trading platform. They encouraged initial withdrawals to reinforce credibility; once a large sum was staked, withdrawal controls were disabled, allowing a harvest of about 340,000 RMB.
Investigators extracted backend logs, template scripts, and wallet addresses to reconstruct the scam from first contact to investment inducement. The prosecutors concluded the facts were clear and credible, and after court proceedings, all 11 defendants were convicted of fraud.
