Ethereum Block Gas Limit Reaches 60 Million After Validators Sign Off on Community-Driven Upgrade
COINOTAG News, reporting on November 27 and citing The Block with data from GasLimit.pics, notes that Ethereum’s block Gas limit has been raised from 45 million to 60 million gas per block. The move follows a broad push from users and developers to expand network capacity and strengthen base layer processing capability. Ethereum Foundation researcher Toni Wahrstätter announced the adjustment on X, describing it as the result of a year-long, community-led effort to enhance the network’s throughput at the Ethereum base layer.
Automatic implementation took effect on November 25 after more than half of validators signaled support, meeting the threshold defined by current consensus rules. The uptick doubles the prior ceiling and signals a scalable path for higher transaction activity, with implications for gas pricing and block efficiency, while preserving the network’s trusted security model.
