FTX Founder SBF Appeals for New Trial as Nov. 4 Appeal Hearing Weighs Trial-Bias Claims

According to CoinDesk, via COINOTAG News, the appeal hearing for FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried is scheduled for November 4, two years after his 25-year prison sentence. The session will assess procedural fairness rather than re-litigating the charges.

Each side will have 10 minutes to present its argument. The panel includes the SDNY prosecutor team led by former SEC Chairman Jay Clayton and SBF’s defense team led by Alexandra Shapiro. The presiding judge may pose questions to clarify the record.

In opening statements filed September 2024, the defense argues for a new trial before a new judge, contending that District Judge Lewis Kaplan displayed bias that affected the defense. The filing frames the appellate review as ensuring a fair process rather than re-litigating the charges.
