Trump Files Slimmed-Down 40-Page Defamation Suit Against New York Times Seeking $150 Billion in U.S. Dollars

On October 17, U.S. President Donald Trump refiled a defamation lawsuit against The New York Times and several journalists, alleging media conduct intended to undermine his 2024 reelection bid and to disparage his business reputation.

A federal judge previously dismissed the initial complaint for its excessive length and verbosity; the revised filing has been trimmed to approximately 40 pages, less than half the original, and no longer lists journalist Michael S. Schmidt as a defendant.

The updated complaint removes extensive laudatory passages present in the original submission while continuing to seek $150 billion in damages; the litigation will now proceed under the streamlined complaint.
