US Department of Justice Seeks Extension to Stay Tariff Ruling Impacting Bitcoin Trade

On June 10th, the US Department of Justice formally requested the US Federal Circuit Court of Appeals to prolong the stay on a tariff invalidation ruling issued by a lower court on May 28th. The government emphasized that the initial decision compromises the executive branch’s foreign policy authority. The Federal Circuit Court now holds the discretion to either maintain or lift the stay while the appeal is underway, a process that may extend over several months. Furthermore, the Department of Justice indicated that should the appellate court remove the stay, it intends to escalate the matter to the US Supreme Court for further judicial review.
