Lucky BTC Miner Earns Significant Amount of BTC

An extremely lucky Bitcoin miner received a reward of 6.25 Bitcoin after successfully mining block 803,821. The event took place on August 18th and was carried out by a miner using the Solo CKpool mining service.

The miner identified as bc1q2za4ejga366sn288273pty8trasn5zs4y9hqg6 earned approximately $160,000 at current prices, after deducting a 2% fee taken by the mining pool.

Con Kolivas, operator of Solo CKpool, congratulated the winner and mentioned that the miner was operating at an approximate hash rate of 1 PH/s (petahash/second), which is significantly lower than what large-scale industrial Bitcoin mining pools have.

While many possess computational power in the Exahash (EH/s) range – for example, the largest Bitcoin mining pool, Foundry, currently has up to 123.64 EH/s – an individual miner armed with only a few Petahash is at a significant disadvantage.

The current Bitcoin mining difficulty level is around 52.39 trillion, nearly an all-time high. Kolivas stated, “At this size, a miner solves a block on average every 7 years.”

It’s also mentioned that the lucky miner likely used around ten Antminer S17 Bitcoin mining machines to solve the mathematical puzzle and win the reward.

Overcoming Bitcoin Miner Probabilities

At the heart of the Bitcoin network lies the mining process, a critical mechanism that verifies transactions, secures the network, and brings new Bitcoin into circulation.

It’s an effort of computation, using the power of high-performance computers to solve complex mathematical puzzles. Miners compete to solve these puzzles, with the winner having a chance to add a new block to the blockchain.

Despite the probabilities, occasionally, a solo Bitcoin miner can still produce a valid hash. This is where Solo CKpool risks its business by offering rewards to miners with outdated/inefficient mining equipment that might not likely reward via conventional mining but still wish to participate as a kind of lottery.

This year alone, individual miners using Solo CKpool have found ten blocks, totaling 277 confirmed blocks in the pool’s history.
