Javier Milei’s victory in the primaries in Argentina has increased hopes that Argentina will embrace Bitcoin; A politician made a bold promise!

Bitcoin Expectations Rising in Argentina

Argentine politician Diana Elena Mondino claimed that the country will soon become a ‘Bitcoin paradise’ and stated that the country is on its way to electing a president interested in BTC. These claims were made by Diana Mondino, an economist, university professor, and former board member of companies such as Pampa Energía, Banco Supervielle, Loma Negra, and Bodegas Bianchi.

Criptonoticias reported that Mondino is running as a candidate representing the La Libertad Avanza (Freedom Advances) party, hoping to win a seat in Buenos Aires in the upcoming general elections. The leader of the party, Javier Milei, is a congressman and a leading candidate in the presidential elections.

Milei won 30% of the votes in Argentina’s primaries this month. The country will elect its new president on October 22. Milei has previously made praising remarks about BTC but prefers dollarization as a solution to the national hyperinflation crisis.

In an interview, presidential candidate Milei said:

“Bitcoin is a natural response to fraudulent central banks.”

Bitcoin Paradise: Will Argentina Turn to BTC?

Mondino is an open-minded crypto advocate who has participated in a series of Bitcoin-related conferences and spoken on podcasts about BTC. In May of this year, she tweeted:

“We must legalize the use of cryptocurrencies.”

This statement became the subject of widespread ridicule, with one commentator asking, “Have you gone mad?” However, another person tweeted a clapping emoji and tagged the President of the United States in their response.

Mondino also previously claimed that BTC’s identity information as a store of value “raises questions” but could have “operational” benefits. On the other hand, Milei has previously emphasized that “governments should stay away from Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies” and stated that attempts to introduce regulations would limit the potential of BTC and cryptocurrency.

However, Milei’s enthusiasm for BTC could be softened by his desire to discredit the peso in favor of USD in his rhetoric. Carlos Maslatón, a former prominent lawyer and politician who is a BTC advocate, previously criticized Milei’s dollarization plans as a “joke” and called on the presidential candidate to embrace BTC as an alternative.
