  • As of July 27, an network focusing on Optimism – Layer 2 network and Optimistic Rollups technology – recorded 944,000 daily transactions. According to these data, it surpasses its competitor Arbitrum’s 660,000 transactions.
  • Since the Worldcoin team started distributing user accounts on Optimism from June 2023, the network has gained impressive momentum. The daily transaction volume has increased by 240%.
  • However, Arbitrum is still leading in other metrics. According to the data, Arbitrum has the highest total locked value among all Layer 2 solutions with $2.1 billion.

The crypto project Worldcoin, founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has helped Optimism surpass Arbitrum with its launch on the Optimism network.

Optimism Surpasses Arbitrum Network

In the field of Ethereum Layer 2 scaling solutions, the latest figures indicate a significant change. As of July 27, a network focusing on Optimism – Layer 2 network and Optimistic Rollups technology – recorded 944,000 daily transactions. According to these data, it surpasses its competitor Arbitrum’s 660,000 transactions. Significantly, this is the first time since January 2023 that Optimism has taken the lead in daily transaction volume.

This deviation from the six-month trend is primarily associated with the introduction of Worldcoin on the Optimism network. Worldcoin is a crypto identity project associated with OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman and has recently been launched on Optimism, which has increased the network’s activity.

Since the Worldcoin team started distributing user accounts on Optimism from June 2023, the network has gained impressive momentum. The daily transaction volume has increased by 240%, rising from just under 277,000 transactions since June 1 to 944,000 transactions. In contrast, Arbitrum’s daily transaction volume has slightly decreased, falling from 745,000 transactions to 660,000 transactions during the same period.

Dune Analytics data highlights the growing appeal of Optimism and, in particular, the interest in Worldcoin on the network. The number of Worldcoin wallets interacting with the protocol is close to reaching 1 million; currently at 961,000. It is important to note that this number does not include pre-sale wallets that have not yet migrated to the Optimism network.

Arbitrum Still Leading in Other Metrics

However, Arbitrum is still leading in other metrics. According to the data, Arbitrum has the highest total locked value among all Layer 2 solutions with $2.1 billion, while Optimism ranks second with $917 million. Additionally, Arbitrum is seen to be in the lead with 123,000 daily active users compared to Optimism’s 89,000.

Optimism and Arbitrum are the leading Layer 2 solutions in terms of adoption. These networks, which utilize optimistic rollup technologies, offer users a more economical option compared to the main network transaction processing method by allowing transactions outside the main Ethereum blockchain.
