Qiao Wang Discusses Web3 Consumer Apps at TOKEN2049: Bitcoin’s Role in Gamification and User Retention

Wang emphasized that user stickiness plays a crucial role in the success of consumer applications within the crypto sector. He asserted that addressing a genuine core need is essential and that gamification, while potentially improving retention in the short term, is not a long-term solution.

Wang highlighted that product quality is paramount; if an application has fundamental flaws, users will quickly abandon it, regardless of any incentivizing gamification techniques. He remarked that in highly saturated markets with similar products, gamification might be more visible, but it’s often an artificial means to maintain customer loyalty due to the low switching costs between competing applications. Companies need to focus on real value and quality to ensure long-term retention and success.
