October 3 marked a significant development in the tech world as xAI, Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence firm, transitioned to a new office in San Francisco’s Mission District. Interestingly, this location shares its address with the longstanding headquarters of OpenAI. Reports indicate that Musk had been covering the rental expenses since his tenure with OpenAI, and in August, proceeded to list the space for sublease. Concurrently, OpenAI shifted its operations to a fresh office four blocks away. On Tuesday, a few hours after OpenAI’s Developer Day, xAI hosted an open house at their new premises. Insights from the event revealed that although xAI employees will occasionally utilize the San Francisco office, their primary base remains in Palo Alto. This move stands out, as Musk had previously communicated intentions to relocate his enterprises to Texas, yet xAI appears to remain an exception in this strategic decision.
