New security features like the MetaMask Delegation Framework enable customizable permissions, enhancing both security and user control.
MetaMask’s 2025 roadmap aims to transform Web3 usability with innovative features, enhancing user experience and security in crypto transactions.
MetaMask Launches New Roadmap
MetaMask’s roadmap is built around three main pillars: enhancing user experience, ensuring seamless multichain connectivity, and fortifying wallet security and functionality.
“The future of web3 depends on self-custody: for it to become the default choice for users, we need to make wallets more intuitive, connected, powerful, and safe,” the blog read.
One of the standout features is the transition from externally owned accounts (EOAs) to programmable accounts. A key component of this shift is EIP-7702, a part of the upcoming Pectra hard fork, which will empower EOAs to function like smart accounts.
The wallet will also introduce ERC-5792 batched transactions that enable one-click “Approve & Swap” actions, which cut gas costs and streamline processes.
Moreover, MetaMask will extend gas-included swaps to all transactions starting in March, allowing users to pay gas with any token they hold when interacting with decentralized applications (dapps) or sending tokens.
“Longer term, we believe we can eliminate gas as a user-facing concern in nearly all interactions. (We’ll get to that!),” the roadmap included.
MetaMask Adds Multichain Support
MetaMask has also shared ambitious multichain expansions. Integration with Solana (SOL) is set for May, followed by Bitcoin (BTC) support in Q3 2025. This enhancement will allow users to engage with these ecosystems without needing separate wallets or wrapped tokens.
A Multichain API is scheduled to launch in June, which will enable dapps to connect to Ethereum (ETH), Linea, Solana, and Bitcoin simultaneously. This API simplifies tasks like portfolio management and bridging.
In line with its multichain focus, the user interface will receive a multichain makeover. A redesigned home screen, debuting next month, will display assets across networks.
Additionally, Profile Sync will arrive in April for browser extensions and in May for mobile devices. This feature will maintain consistent settings across all devices.
Support for multiple Secret Recovery Phrases (SRPs) will also be introduced, allowing users to manage multiple wallets from a single MetaMask instance.
Furthermore, the MetaMask Card will empower users to spend their crypto directly without relying on traditional offramps.
“To realize all of the potential described above, we have built the MetaMask Delegation Framework. We think it might be the most dynamic and powerful permission system you’ve ever used,” the roadmap detailed.
The framework is designed to facilitate flexible and secure account permissions, allowing users to grant ERC-7710 permissions off-chain.
This system also aims to enhance security by enabling users to delegate specific tasks while maintaining overall control, making it easier to balance usability with high-level security.
Meanwhile, this roadmap follows a significant regulatory victory as the SEC dropped its lawsuit against MetaMask.
“Now we can get 100% back to building. 2025 is going to be the best year yet for Ethereum and ConsenSys,” CEO Joe Lubin shared on X.
Conclusion
The unveiling of MetaMask’s 2025 roadmap represents a pivotal moment for the wallet, aiming to enhance user experience and promote wider adoption of Web3 technologies. With a focus on security and intuitive design, MetaMask could redefine how users interact with cryptocurrencies and decentralized applications moving forward.
