60,000 BTC Money Laundering Case: Notebook Mnemonics Unlock Bitcoin Wallet Linked to Qian Zhimin
COINOTAG News, citing The Economic Observer, reports that the mastermind behind a money-laundering case tied to 60,000 BTC is identified as Qian Zhimin. The fugitive reportedly fled with a laptop that includes a built-in cryptocurrency wallet, a detail authorities are tracing for asset recovery.
British police later conducted searches and seized a range of electronic devices, including smartphones, laptops, and USB drives. One USB drive reportedly contained a photo of a notebook page torn before seizure, recording the startup password and several mnemonic words, such as “number + love,” with hints that could unlock the previously seized bitcoins.
Security and governance in crypto asset handling are back in focus as investigators assess how mnemonic data and access keys were stored. The case highlights the importance of robust custody and documentation in asset recovery efforts connected to large-scale crypto-related investigations.
