In a significant development reported by COINOTAG on December 12, Andreas Kohl, co-founder of the Bitcoin sidechain Sequentia, announced the destruction of approximately 69% of the Dogecoin network. Utilizing an aging laptop in El Salvador, Kohl exploited a vulnerability identified by researcher Tobias Ruck that led to a catastrophic node crash. Prior to this incident, data from Blockchair indicated that the Dogecoin network boasted 647 active nodes. However, the aftermath of this exploit has left only 315 active nodes operational at present. This event raises concerns about the resilience of the Dogecoin network and highlights the importance of addressing security vulnerabilities in cryptocurrency systems.
