COINOTAG News, December 14, reports that Rodney Burton, founder of the cryptocurrency investment project HyperFund (also known as HyperVerse) and colloquially known as ‘Bitcoin Rodney,’ now faces 11 U.S. federal charges, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, seven counts of money laundering, and operating an unlicensed money transmitting business.

According to the indictment, Burton promoted the platform from June 2020 to May 2024 and diverted investor capital to purchase luxury assets, such as luxury apartments, sports cars, and yachts.

Co-defendant Brenda Chunga has pleaded guilty, while co-founder Sam Lee remains at large.

If convicted, Burton could face decades in prison, underscoring regulatory risk and the importance of credible disclosures in crypto investment schemes.
