El Salvador Adds Bitcoin Education to the Curriculum

The Ministry of Education in El Salvador and the non-profit organization Mi Primer Bitcoin/My First Bitcoin (MPB/MFB) have announced their collaboration to add Bitcoin education to the public school curriculum by 2024.
John Dennehy, the founder of MPB, confirmed to COINOTAG that this project is an initiative led by the Ministry of Education, with MPB providing support alongside Bitcoin Beach.
According to Dennehy, their program called ‘My First Bitcoin’ will issue completion certificates to students and serve as the primary resource material for the Bitcoin section. Dennehy stated that the pilot program, set to begin on September 7th, will be conducted with the assistance of Bitcoin Beach. The Bitcoin diploma program will aim to provide ‘basic knowledge’ about Bitcoin to 150 public school teachers from 75 schools.
Dennehy stated, ‘El Salvador, as the first country to adopt Bitcoin, can set an example for the world. Quality education is our chance to make this example a positive one.’
Students Embrace Bitcoin in El Salvador
Following the initial training, Dennehy mentioned that teachers would return to their own schools and teach from the curriculum developed by the Ministry of Education. If successful, the program is expected to be expanded to all schools in the country next year.
Dennehy noted that the ‘My First Bitcoin’ program began two years ago and has already reached over 25,000 students learning about Bitcoin in Salvadoran classrooms.
While the current focus is on El Salvador, Dennehy stated that the mission is to take Bitcoin education worldwide. Additionally, they are in early discussions with two other governments in Latin America who have expressed interest in implementing El Salvador-style Bitcoin education for their local students.
Furthermore, on September 4th, Bitcoin Cuba announced on social media that Mi Primer Bitcoin/My First Bitcoin (MFB) has opened registrations for its first edition.
