According to COINOTAG News on November 12, during a session at Devcon, Justin Drake, a core researcher with the Ethereum Foundation, introduced the Beam Chain initiative aimed at enhancing the Ethereum consensus layer. Drake revealed that with the Beacon Chain operational for five years, the new Beam Chain is designed to optimize crucial elements such as Ethereum block production, staking, and cryptographic consensus. The proposed modifications aim to significantly bolster security while improving overall performance metrics.
Drake emphasized that the introduction of Beam Chain will not disrupt the existing Ethereum roadmap. Instead, it will consolidate several anticipated enhancements into a cohesive framework. The timeline for Beam Chain indicates that specifications will be finalized by 2025, followed by coding and testing phases in 2026, with deployment on the mainnet to be considered thereafter. This structured approach aims to ensure that all upgrades align strategically with future goals for the Ethereum ecosystem.
