MetaMask Mastercard Card US Launch
Self-custodial crypto wallet MetaMask has launched its Mastercard-supported spending card for general use in 49 US states; excluding Vermont, it has become available in New York for the first time. MetaMask's parent company Consensys shared this launch with Cointelegraph following the 2024 and 2025 pilots. The card is also available in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, European Economic Area countries, Mexico, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, with new markets to be added. Mastercard's global head of digital commercialization Sherri Haymond stated that MetaMask shares the vision of spending crypto securely and seamlessly. This development is an important step towards integrating crypto spending into daily life.
MetaMask Card Self-Custody Features
The card, developed with Monavate (formerly Baanx) and the Mastercard network, is ideal for those evaluating opportunities like CROSS detailed analysis. It is issued by Cross River Bank with FDIC insurance. It can be used online or in physical stores at 150 million Mastercard-accepting locations; compatible with Apple Pay and Google Pay. The key difference is self-custody: Users maintain full control of their assets in MetaMask wallets until the moment of purchase, distinguishing it from traditional custodial cards. This brings blockchain security to physical spending by keeping private keys with the user.
