Ethereum Quantum Resistance: Vitalik's Proposals
Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin identified the four most vulnerable areas of the Ethereum network against quantum computers and shared a solution roadmap: validator signatures, data storage, user account signatures, and zero-knowledge proofs. He proposed replacing BLS consensus signatures with Lean quantum-secure hash-based signatures and emphasized that hash function selection is critical, as it may be Ethereum's last hash function. He referenced Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake's Lean Ethereum plan proposed in August 2025.
For data storage, they plan to replace the KZG system with quantum-resistant STARKs, but noted that it requires engineering work. Upgrading ECDSA signatures in user accounts to lattice-based quantum-resistant ones will increase gas consumption; as a long-term solution, he suggested recursive signature and proof aggregation at the protocol level. Since zero-knowledge proofs have high onchain costs, they aim to perform thousands of verifications with near-zero cost using a single master proof with the same aggregation technique. According to the Ethereum Foundation's Strawmap, slot time and finality time will be shortened.

ETH Foundation and Treasury Updates
Ethereum Foundation has initiated new treasury transactions following Vitalik Buterin's recent sales. This development aligns with efforts to strengthen the network's long-term security and could accelerate quantum resistance investments. Stay tuned for ETH detailed analysis.
