Blockstream CEO Adam Back opposed the Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP-110), stating that temporarily reducing the data amount in transactions to reduce spam similar to Ordinals would harm the network's reliability more. BIP-110, proposed in December by pseudonymous developer Dathon Ohm, aims to limit image, video, and other data abuses. According to data, approximately 7.5% of Bitcoin nodes using the Bitcoin Knots client appear to support the proposal.

What is BIP-110 and Why is it Being Discussed?
Back emphasized in his X post that this would be an attack without consensus and that spam is only annoying; he also added that some UTXOs might become unusable. Ohm argued that precautions were taken not to affect known use cases.
