Stablecoin issuer Circle has published a post-quantum security roadmap for the layer-1 blockchain ARC. The company aims to implement quantum-resistant solutions across all technology layers of the network. It will start with opt-in quantum-proof wallets and signatures at mainnet launch, followed by a phased transition for validators and infrastructure. Circle warns against passive approaches in the industry, stating, “Quantum resistance must be concretized in infrastructure.”

Details of Circle's Arc Quantum Security Roadmap

Researchers from Google and the California Institute of Technology indicate that functional quantum computers may arrive sooner than expected and could break ECDSA-based cryptography like Bitcoin's in minutes. Circle is proactive against this threat: The roadmap includes integrating post-quantum algorithms such as lattice-based and hash-based signatures. This will ensure ARC's long-term security.

Arc Mainnet and USDC-Supported Testnet Status

ARC will transition to mainnet in 2026; currently supporting institutional use cases on testnet with USDC stablecoin. In the long term, privacy solutions for balances, transactions, and infrastructure will be added. This integration also means infrastructure preparation for ARC futures.

Other Blockchains in the Face of the Quantum Threat

The quantum threat is acknowledged in the crypto industry, but the scope of vulnerability is controversial. Algorand stands out as the most prepared blockchain; ETH and Solana ecosystems are preparing. There's a split in Bitcoin: Blockstream CEO Adam Back finds the risk exaggerated, while researcher Ethan Heilman suggests protection via BIP-360, but implementation could take 7 years.

ARC's Future Privacy and Institutional Advantages

Beyond quantum resistance, ARC will add privacy layers for institutional adoption. This integration with stablecoins like USDC will accelerate bridging DeFi and traditional finance.
