Address Poisoning Risk in Phantom Chat

The built-in messaging feature Phantom Chat in the Phantom crypto wallet is facing criticism from security researchers due to an address poisoning phishing attack. An investor lost 3.5 Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), approximately 264.000 dollars. Blockchain researcher ZachXBT confirmed the incident based on Nansen data; the transaction was made on Wednesday from the high-balance 0x85c address to the 0x4b7 address. The address poisoning technique allows scammers to copy addresses from users' transaction histories with small transactions.

ZachXBT demanded that Phantom improve its user interface and spam filtering. X user Kill4h also reported losing 136 dollars and 101 dollars USDC in similar attacks. Binance founder Changpeng Zhao had suggested that wallets block poisoned addresses. Hacken emphasized the use of address books; Cyvers highlighted pre-transaction risk checks. A wallet linked to Galaxy Digital had also lost 12.3 million Ether (ETH). Phantom announced the feature on December 23 and warns to be careful with unsolicited tokens.

BTC ETF Flows and Institutional Confidence

While this security incident was occurring, the BTC market is showing positive signals. In the February 9, 2026 ETF flows, Bitcoin ETFs saw 144,9 million dollars in net inflows. The Binance SAFU Fund also added 4225 BTC (299,6 million dollars), bringing its total assets to 10455 BTC (734 million dollars).
