On October 5, COINOTAG shared that EigenLayer officials unveiled details concerning a recent hack targeting an individual investor. This breach involved intercepting the investor’s email communications related to the transfer of EIGEN tokens, successfully diverting the tokens to the hacker’s address. Consequently, a total of 1,673,645 EIGEN tokens were misrouted. Post-breach, the malicious entity liquidated the appropriated tokens via a decentralized exchange, channeling the proceeds, in stablecoins, to a centralized trading platform.
EigenLayer has assured stakeholders of its ongoing collaborative efforts with relevant exchanges and law enforcement to mitigate the impact of the breach, with a portion of the funds already frozen. It’s crucial to highlight that this incident was singular, targeting only one investor, leaving the EigenLayer protocol and its token contracts uncompromised and secure. No systemic vulnerabilities were identified in the aftermath, maintaining the protocol’s integrity intact.
